Giants’ Daniel Jones led NFL in preseason QB rating, yards per attempt

New York Giants rookie quarterback Daniel Jones had a preseason for the ages, completing 29 of his 34 pass attempts (85.3%) for 416 yards and two touchdowns.

For many, Jones’ preseason fireworks show was enough for them to walk back their criticism and doubt, with some analysts even publicly admitting how wrong they were and calling for an apology tour of sorts.

For others, Jones’ preseason success was dismissed as a flash in the pan — success against players who would soon find themselves out of the league.

Whatever the case may be, the numbers don’t lie. And when comparing Jones to other NFL quarterbacks who took a minimum of 10 preseason snaps, there was none better.

Jones led all quarterbacks (10 snap min.) in QB rating (137.3), yards per attempt (12.2), completion percentage (85.3%) and drop-adjusted completion percentage (88.2).

When actually looking at the numbers, it makes some of the ongoing criticisms of Jones laughable. The notion that he merely succeeded against watered down talent is faulty when you considering he out-performed the likes of DeShaun Watson, Patrick Mahomes, Sam Darnold, Kyler Murray, Dwayne Haskins and even the greatest of all-time, Tom Brady.

While Jones may be far from a finished product, he made it abundantly clear that he’s the right man for the job in New York and that when Eli Manning does eventually step aside, the Giants are in good hands.
