Giants’ Daniel Jones happy with his early progress

Two days ago, New York Giants rookie quarterback Daniel Jones finally signed his contract, just in time for training camp. Prior to practice starting, Jones spoke with the media.

As you can imagine, Jones was asked questions about himself, current quarterback Eli Manning, the competition surrounding the two and more. Jones mostly deflected questions regarding the quarterback competition, not wanting to stir the pot. He did, however, comment on how he feels his own progress is going since the draft.

“I think I’m a lot further along. I’ve made a lot of progress and all the rookies have but there is a lot that needs to be done. The scheme and executing it is a big part of it, running our offense against different looks,” Jones said.

Jones also stated that he knows his throws are going to have to be on time, noting that the players in the NFL are faster than what he saw at Duke in college, and he discussed how Eli is giving him tips on how to be successful in New York.

While there will be plenty of media coverage regarding the quarterback “competition” in New York, it’s clear that Jones and Manning have no desire to discuss it themselves. Jones recognizes that he has to improve quite a bit before he can take the NFL field, and Manning knows he has to be on his game to keep his job.

Now that training camp is starting, it will be interesting to see how this progresses and if Pat Shurmur decides to make any changes.
