Giants cut LB Jake Carlock from their practice squad

Jake Carlock, the Long Island product who made a splash this summer for the New York Giants at training camp, was released from the team’s practice squad on Tuesday.

Carlock, who played his college ball at LIU Post, was initially signed as a safety and a special teamer as an undrafted free agent this past spring. He was a jack of all trades but a master of none, doing some long snapping and playing a bit at outside linebacker in the preseason.

Carlock’s enthusiasm and energy caught the eye of teammates, coaches and fans alike but was cut before the season and added to the practice squad.

Carlock’s release comes on the heels of a flurry of moves by the Giants on defense. The trade for Leonard Williams led to the release of second-year linebacker Tae Davis, who is now a candidate for Carlock’s practice squad spot should no other team sign him.
