Giants are interested in signing LB Markus Golden

The New York Giants are in need of players who can sack the quarterback. After trading away their sack leader from a year ago (Olivier Vernon, 7) they don’t have a player who has ever resisted more than 5.5 sacks in a single season.

That’s why it makes sense that they would be showing interest in free agent defensive end/outside linebacker Markus Golden, formally of the Arizona Cardinals.

Golden was a budding star for the Cards under then-defensive coordinator James Bettcher back in 2016 when he racked up 12.5 sacks. But he couldn’t sustain that success, tearing his ACL the next October and then playing in a 4-3 upon his return in 2018.

If healthy, it would behoove the Giants to kick the tires on the former second-rounder out of Mizzou and reunite him with Bettcher. The price should not be too outlandish for the Giants to handle.

The Giants have $27.4 million in free cap space and they are playing the market seeking bargains. Golden could be one of those.
