Giants’ Corey Coleman believes his best is yet to come

When wide receiver Corey Coleman was selected at No. 15 overall by the Cleveland Browns in the 2016 NFL Draft, expectations were understandably sky high.

Unfortunately for Coleman, things didn’t pan out in Cleveland and in relatively short order, he found himself traded to the Buffalo Bills and later released prior to the start of the 2018 season.

Coleman briefly found himself on the New England Patriots’ practice squad, but that, too, was short-lived. He was again cut loose before catching on with the New York Giants mid-way through the 2018 season.

Although Coleman produced only a limited amount offensively and on special teams, there were a few flashes of talent that reminded onlookers why he was selected at No. 15 overall in the first place.

Now with a half of a season under his belt and a full offseason to wrap his mind around the playbook, Coleman is feeling increasingly confident and believes his best is yet to come.

“I’ve got a lot of great people around me,” Coleman said, via Giants.com. “Starting from the ground up, you get to build a base. I get to know the Day 1 install instead of coming in halfway during the season [when it is] just game plan stuff. So it’s helped a lot.”

Rather than being dismayed by a rather crowded wide receivers room, Coleman has embraced the situation and worked on preparing himself for a very real training camp battle.

In addition to an open spot on the outside at wide receiver, Coleman could also be in play on special teams as both a kick and punt returner — a valuable bit of versatility that may serve him well this summer.
