Giants’ Corey Ballentine should make 100% recovery from shooting

Defensive back Corey Ballentine, the New York Giants’ sixth-round selection in this year’s NFL Draft, is recovering from a gunshot wound to the glute muscle and is expected to make a quick and full recovery.

Ballentine, who attended Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas was wounded in an off-campus shooting that took the life of his college teammate and roommate, Dwane Simmons, early Sunday morning after the NFL Draft. The incident is currently under investigation.

Ballentine is expected to attend the Giants’ rookie minicamp this weekend.

Ballentine posted a tribute to his late friend on his Twitter page.

Ballentine was selected with the No. 180 pick and was the third of three cornerbacks taken by the Giants in this draft. Deandre Baker of Georgia (Round 1, Pick 30) and Notre Dame’s Julian Love (Round 4, Pick 108) were the others.
