Giants’ Cody Latimer rushes to help Ohio tornado victims

The midwest has been ravaged by severe storms in recent days, some producing large hail, damaging winds and life-threatening tornadoes.

The National Weather Service has confirmed 17 tornado touchdowns in Ohio this week and that number is expected to rise. Three of those tornadoes were EF3, which have sustained winds of between 136 and 165 MPH.

Photos of the destruction are jaw-dropping, which led New York Giants wide receiver Cody Latimer to leave East Rutherford where he was participating in organized team activities, and return home to his native Ohio to lend a hand.

NJ Advance Media reports that Latimer arrived in Ohio on Wednesday and got to work donating food, supplies and shelter to those in need.

Giants wide receiver Cody Latimer spent Wednesday making a true difference as a volunteer in the tornado-ravaged Dayton, Ohio neighborhoods where he was raised. He still has family living in the area.

Latimer reportedly donated food and supplies, and helped provide shelter for victims of the storms that caused severe damage to homes and businesses. Some victims are said to be without water or electricity.

Latimer’s Twitter account shows a timeline of the destruction and details the efforts that are going into helping those in need.

Tyke Tolbert, the Giants’ wide receivers coach, took the time out to praise Latimer for his willingness to help.

At least one death and 90 injuries have been reported since the onset of the tornado outbreak, and more than 80,000 were without power. 60 million across the midwest remain under a severe weather threat.
