NEW YORK — Mr. Tate is not going to Washington.
The Giants announced Saturday afternoon that disgruntled wide receiver Golden Tate would not even be making the train trip with Big Blue for Sunday's NFC East clash with the Washington Football Team.
Tate, who griped about his role in the offense last week along with his wife, was demoted to the scout team by head coach Joe Judge for practice on Thursday and Friday. The former Notre Dame star was completely held out of practice on Wednesday.
The Giants would have traded him prior to Tuesday's NFL trade deadline but found no takers for the 32-year-old veteran.
"We still have an entire day of practice to go through, so I'll evaluate everything and make decisions on the back end of what we're going to do through the weekend," Judge said of Tate on Friday. "I'm gonna discuss a lot of possibilities today after practice."
Tate found himself in Judge's doghouse for yelling "throw me the damn ball" at the Giants' sideline after his first catch on Monday night against the Buccaneers, and then screamed "throw me the ball" into ESPN's end zone camera after his second catch for a TD.
Tate's wife Elise also ranted on Instagram Monday night that Tate's lack of usage in the offense was affecting his stats. She said Tate was open often but not receiving the ball.
Judge says he spoke "at length" with Tate on Tuesday. The first-year head coach then kept him out of Wednesday's practice before punishing Tate with scout-team duty the rest of the week.
The Giants were traveling on a chartered Amtrak train to Washington on Saturday for Sunday's 1 p.m. game.
