Giants CB Janoris Jenkins out for season, to undergo ankle surgery

Janoris Jenkins' tumultuous season has come to an end.

The Giants corner will undergo surgery on Wednesday to repair an injured ankle and will be placed on the injured reserve.

Jenkins has battled an ankle issue most of the season and re-injured it again last Thursday when he returned an interception for a touchdown in the Giants' 20-10 loss to Washington.

Jenkins was suspended for a game earlier this season for violating team policy when he failed to arrive for practice following the team's bye week.

A week after his suspension he was highly criticized for what appeared to be a half-hearted effort on a few tackles in a 31-21 loss to NFC-worst 49ers.

The Giants added defensive tackle Khyri Thornton to the roster.

Thornton, the fifth defensive player signed by the Giants this week, played four games for the Lions this season and recorded four tackles before being released Nov. 21. He was suspended the first six games of the season for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.
