Giants-Cardinals Week 7: Offense, defense and special teams snap counts

The New York Giants didn’t stand a chance against the Arizona Cardinals in the pouring rain at MetLife Stadium in Week 7, falling behind 17-0 early in the second quarter before dropping the game, 27-21.

From top to bottom, it was an ugly showing for the Giants, who turned the ball over three times, allowed eight sacks, gained less than 265 yards of total offense, lost yet another key pass interference challenge and saw their superstars with several soul-crushing drops or missed assignments.

There will be a lot to discuss about the Giants and their future this week, but for now, here’s a look at the snap counts that attributed to loss No. 5.

Offensive snaps: 71
Defensive snaps: 65
Special teams snaps: 29

Offensively, it’s worth noting that rookie wide receiver Darius Slayton is not only seeing increased playing time, but is nearing 100% of the team’s total snaps. That’s an impressive climb for the fifth-round player, who started his career off (in rookie mini-camp) about as poorly as anyone in league history.

On the defensive side of the ball, it’s curious to see B.J. Hill’s snaps fall to 30% range. But on the opposite side of that spectrum, rookie Oshane Ximines has steadily seen his snap count rise.

Finally, on special teams, newly signed running back Buck Allen made his Giants debut with four lowly snaps.
