Giants ‘came out of nowhere’ to offer CB James Bradberry

Through the first week of free agency, the New York Giants made several moves, which includes signing cornerback James Bradberry to a three-year deal.

While the Giants were in the mix for free agent cornerback Byron Jones before he signed with the Miami Dolphins, they got a deal done with Bradberry, who wasn’t expecting the offer from Big Blue.

The 26-year-old cornerback told the media in a conference call Friday that the offer from the Giants “came out of nowhere” during the first week of free agency.

The Giants signed Bradberry to a three-year deal worth $43.5 million with $31.98 guaranteed. With a huge need at the cornerback position, it was likely the Giants were going to be in on either Jones or Bradberry—whichever player was most available to them.

Bradberry is coming off of a career year in terms of production when he recorded three interceptions and 12 passes defended. According to Pro Football Focus, he allowed a 77.9 passer rating when targeted in 2019—a career-best.

With so many needs on the defensive side of the ball, the Giants are hoping Bradberry can step in and be a productive piece of the secondary on the opposite side of DeAndre Baker.
