With quarterback Daniel Jones likely to miss some time with a hamstring injury, the New York Giants have been sent scrambling in an attempt to fortify the position and add some depth.
On Monday, quarterback Alex Tanney began the COVID-19 entry process and seems like the favorite to be signed — and possibly even start — against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 13. But he won’t be the only player the Giants look at.
Head coach Joe Judge previously mentioned quarterback Cooper Rush, who currently resides on the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad, while the team will also welcome in quarterback Joe Webb on Wednesday.
Webb was a sixth-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings in the 2010 NFL Draft and later spent time with the Carolina Panthers (2014-2016), Buffalo Bills (2017), Houston Texans (2018-2019) and, most recently, the Detroit Lions (2020).
Detroit had signed Webb to their practice squad as a wide receiver, but released him on October 20.
In 102 career games, Webb has completed 56.6% of his passes for 888 yards, three touchdowns and six interceptions. He’s also rushed the ball 50 times for 326 yards and four touchdowns, while hauling in 10 receptions for 74 yards.
Webb can also play special teams and has been known to handle kickoff return duties.
