Giants-Bills Week 2: Offense, defense and special teams snap counts

The New York Giants dropped to 0-2 for the sixth time in the last seven years with a 28-14 loss to the Buffalo Bills at MetLife Stadium on Sunday — a game that saw fans boo heavily and then leave early.

Like it or not, the bags are returning in East Rutherford as the infamous chant, “oh no, we suck again!” begins to ring out.

Here’s a quick look at the snap counts that contributed to the team’s latest loss.

Offensive snaps: 70
Defensive snaps: 76
Special teams snaps: 28

Once again, what leaps off the page is that Saquon Barkley was on the field for 87 percent of all offensive snaps, but received just 18 carries (only 15 after the first series) and 21 touches overall. The bottom line number has to be 25 touches for Barkley per game. Period.

Defensively, what stands out is easy for everyone to see: A combined total of 0 defensive snaps for Corey Ballentine, Julian Love and Antonio Hamilton. And yes, we know Hamilton was awful in Week 1, but Deandre Baker was no better in Week 2 and the team didn’t even bother trying anything else.

Perhaps somewhat ironically, Hamilton excelled on his 25 special teams snaps, playing almost a flawless game on first glance (we’ll see what the tape tells us later).
