Giants begin season 27th in USA TODAY power rankings

It will come as little surprise to know that most experts don’t think very highly of the 2019 New York Giants, with many anticipating a last place NFC East finish for the third consecutive year.

That level of pessimism was represented in USA TODAY’s first power rankings list of the regular season, which saw the Giants check in at No. 27 overall.

Already, those at USA TODAY are looking forward.

27. Giants (26): Sadly for two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning, we’re all officially waiting to see how Daniel Jones performs in a real NFL game.

Seeing Daniel Jones on the field could come sooner rather than later or it may not come at all. That depends entirely on quarterback Eli Manning and the Giants offense.

The overriding belief is that Manning has a very short leash, but head coach Pat Shurmur has indicated that’s not the case at all. And while he hasn’t ruled out Jones taking over for Manning in 2019, he has repeatedly expressed a level of excitement over what he expects from Eli in Year 2 of his offensive system.

The Giants are full of question marks this season, but they’ll get to answering those beginning this Sunday afternoon in Dallas.
