Giants’ B.J. Hill named to PFF’s NFL Week 8 Team of the Week

Against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field on Sunday, the New York Giants defensive line appeared to have one of their worst performances of the season, being bulldozed — especially in the first half — by a fearsome Detroit O-line.

While the Giants held the Lions to an average of just 2.4 yards per rush, there were times that running lanes were so wide open you could run a tractor trailer through them. And pressure on Matthew Stafford? That primarily came via the blitz or a rare moment of solid coverage.

Despite it all, Pro Football Focus named defensive lineman B.J. Hill, who played just 29 snaps, to their NFL Team of the Week for Week 8.

DI B.J. HILL, NEW YORK GIANTS

Hill was solid across the board in the Giants’ loss to Detroit on Sunday. He earned an 82.3 run-defense grade and a 79.8 pass-rush grade on his way to a 90.4 overall grade in Week 8.

Hill finished the game, which resulted in a 31-26 loss for the Giants, with just one tackle, no QB hits, no sacks and no pressures.

Hill has seen a somewhat surprising decrease in his snaps in recent weeks, but that may be situational as the Giants have tinkered with Dexter Lawrence and Davlin Tomlinson’s snaps throughout the year as well.

It’s possible Hill sees even less time on defense to close out the year after the Giants acquired defensive end Leonard Williams from the Jets on Monday in exchange for two draft picks.
