Oddsmakers don’t know what to do with the New York Giants these days. They haven’t been winning many games the past two seasons (eight to be exact), but they have been competitive much of the time. Last season, they lost eight games by seven points or less.
This week, as they head down to face another team that’s been difficult to gauge — the Dallas Cowboys — Vegas has made them 7.5 underdogs with an over/under of 45.5.
The Giants are even more of an enigma this year after shedding themselves of Odell Beckham Jr., Landon Collins and Olivier Vernon — their top receiver, leading tackler and most productive pass rusher.
Dallas finally has their offensive line intact, but Zack Martin is still dealing with a disc issue in his back. Defensive end Demarcus Lawrence is coming off shoulder surgery and a big payday this offseason. He’ll test new Giants right tackle Mike Remmers, who missed a practice this week with an illness and back soreness.
For the Giants, wide receiver Sterling Shepard (thumb) will play. Wide receiver Golden Tate (suspension) will not. For Dallas, defensive end Robert Quinn is suspended.
Biggest question: how much will Cowboys’ star running back Ezekiel Elliott play on Sunday after returning this week from his summer-long contract holdout in Cabo?
