Giants’ Antonio Hamilton suffered groin injury in victory over Bears

Already thin at cornerback, the New York Giants could ill afford to lose another body, but in a Friday night preseason victory over the Chicago Bears, that’s precisely what happened.

Midway through the first half, cornerback Antonio Hamilton, who has been playing especially well this summer, went down with what appeared to be a leg injury. He was helped off the field and immediately brought into the locker-room.

Hamilton didn’t return to the field and while speaking to the media after the game, head coach Pat Shurmur revealed he had suffered a groin injury.

“[Antonio] Hamilton went out with a groin [injury],” Shurmur said, adding that a few others players were nicked up as well. “A couple of other guys we’ll just have to wait and see tomorrow.”

With Sam Beal, rookie Deandre Baker and Grant Haley, who returned on Friday night, also banged up, the Giants suddenly find themselves in a situation similar to their wide receivers earlier in training camp.

Each of the injured defensive backs are on the mend and expected to return for Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys, but as of right now, their numbers are thin and getting thinner. Expect an addition at the position this coming week.
