Giants announce Amba Etta-Tawo suffered a torn Achilles tendon

Injuries continue to pile up for the New York Giants at the wide receiver position with word that Amba Etta-Tawo, who was carted off of the practice field on Monday, suffered a torn Achilles tendon.

Etta-Tawo was signed in late July amid a flurry of bad luck at the position. Corey Coleman was lost for the season due to a torn ACL, while Sterling Sheppard suffered a fractured thumb and Golden Tate was suspended for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drugs policy.

Meanwhile, rookie Darius Slayton also found himself on the sideline along with Brittan Golden and Alex Wesley, who had started training camp on the physically unable to perform list.

The 25-year-old Etta-Tawo originally signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent out of Maryland back in 2017. He later joined the Kansas City Chiefs before finding his way to the Giants (2017-2018) and the Houston Texans.

Earlier in 2019, Etta-Tawo played for former Giants defensive coordinator Tim Lewis on the Birmingham Iron of the now defunct AFL. He had just five receptions on 10 targets for 87 yards before the league folded.
