Giants’ Andrew Thomas designated to return to practice

The New York Giants have designated left tackle Andrew Thomas (foot/ankle) to return to practice.

Thomas was placed on injured reserve back on October 19 and missed each of the team’s previous three games. Prior to that, he had been playing exceptionally well and showed steady growth.

That’s the good news.

The bad news is that Thomas may still be a week or so away from playing. Head coach Joe Judge did not exactly sound optimistic about Thomas’ chances in Week 11 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“We expect him to be on the field with us this week at least starting (to) practice,” Judge told reporters on Wednesday.

Judge’s comments would seem to indicate that a ramp-up period is beginning for Thomas. If he’s unable to play on Monday night, circle a Week 12 game against the Philadelphia Eagles as a potential return date.

Prior to going down with injury, Thomas had not surrendered a single sack, while allowing just two QB hits and five hurries.
