Giants’ Alec Ogletree, Wayne Gallman banged up in win over Jets

The New York Giants almost made it out of their Week 1 preseason matchup against the New York Jets unscathed, but not quite.

In addition to rookie running back Jonathan Hilliman, who suffered a concussion in the second half of Thursday’s nights game, the Giants also saw injuries sustained by running back Wayne Gallman and linebacker Alec Ogletree.

Gallman went for x-rays following the 31-22 victory, but those came back negative. And while the news of no break was a positive for Big Blue, Gallman will be monitored for a foot sprain in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Ogletree was added to the list of walking wounded, having suffered a calf strain on Thursday night. It’s unclear how long he will be out.

All told, that’s not horrible news for the Giants, who usually suffer some devastating season-long injuries against the Jets.

Adding to that relative good news is that Giants head coach Pat Shurmur expects some of his other injured players to return to practice on Sunday into next week, including wide receiver Darius Slayton, cornerback Grant Haley and offensive lineman Chad Wheeler.
