Giants’ Alec Ogletree now wears No. 47: What led to the change?

New York Giants linebacker Alec Ogletree has worn No. 52 for six seasons. However, now entering his seventh season, Ogletree decided to change his number to 47.

There’s a reason behind the change, and it’s deep.

“It felt like I had done all I could do in the number 52,” Ogletree told Giants.com’s Dan Salomone.

“In biblical terms, the number seven means ‘I’m a completion.’ Number four — I read it means your mind, your body and your spirit are in line with the structural world again, and for me, in organized sports. It (also) means stability at home. The number 47 reminded me of where I come from, what I’ve been through, and where I’m headed. Those are a few of the reasons why I changed it.”

Ogletree is entering his second season with the Giants. Last season, he was the only linebacker in the NFL with five interceptions and two pick-sixes. Over his career, he has accumulated 594 tackles (425 solo), 6.5 sacks, 51 passes defended, 12 forced fumbles and 11 interceptions for 259 yards and four touchdowns.

As a veteran on this team, Ogeltree looks to be a solid part of the defense and be the best version of himself that he can be. The Giants will need him to step up and perform this season with a young defense behind him.

Oh, and for those who care to know, Jake Carlock, who had previously wore No. 47, traded with Ogletree and now dons No. 52.
