Giants’ Alec Ogletree expects to be back for Week 1 vs. Cowboys

New York Giants linebacker Alec Ogletree suffered a calf strain during the team’s first preseason game against the New York Jets. Until today, his status remained uncertain, but after practice, Ogletree said that he is feeling better and will be ready for the season opener against the Dallas Cowboys.

Ogletree also said that he has lost weight after changing his diet, aiming to get faster in effort to keep up with a fast-paced game.

It’s a good thing Ogletree will be ready for week one against Dallas as the Giants defense is really going to need him. While the Giants have done what they can do bolster the defense after losing some key pieces, they’re still going to need veterans like Ogletree out on the field to lead the youngsters they brought in.

That Ogletree is taking things seriously is also positive. Yes, you have to be able to cover ground and this is a fast paced game, so it’s nice to see a player taking a vested interest in bettering his game. It doesn’t just better his game, though, it betters his health which will help him out when his career ends.

Ogletree is unlikely to play in any remaining preseason games and may be limited in practice straight through the end of August.
