Giants’ Aldrick Rosas faces three charges from June accident

New York Giants kicker Aldrick Rosas was formally charged with three misdemeanors on Wednesday stemming from a June 15 hit-and-run in California.

The three charges include reckless driving on highway, hit-and-run property damage and driving while suspended/revoked for DUI of alcohol/drugs — the latter of which stems from a 2016 conviction after Rosas was found guilty of driving with a blood-alcohol level over .08%.

At the time of Rosas’ June arrest, the California Highway Patrol report stated that “alcohol impairment is believed to be a factor in the collision,” but no sobriety test or Breathalyzer was administered, reports the New York Post.

“They could determine alcohol on his breath, and it was determined he had been drinking,” Butte County district attorney Mike Ramsey told The Post. “but highway patrol felt that after three hours, they could not determine what his alcohol level was some three hours before, or whether he had been drinking in the meantime. They chose not to do an alcohol test.”

Witnesses at the scene say Rosas was driving at speeds near 100 MPH when he went through a red light and struck another vehicle at the intersection. Rosas allegedly tried to drive away, but his vehicle was disabled. He then walked off and was discovered by police nearly a mile away from the scene.

“He’s very lucky,” Ramsey said. “A fraction of a second one way or the other, either he or the other person could be dead, at that speed.”

The Giants had “no comment” on Rosas being charged, while an NFL spokesman said, “we are aware of the situation and have been in contact with Aldrick.”

The 25-year-old Rosas, who made the Pro Bowl in 2018, is coming off a down year and could now face a league suspension. He is currently the only kicker on the Giants’ roster.
