Giants’ 2020 line is moving, but not in a positive direction

Expectations are not particularly high for the New York Giants entering the 2020 season, which is fair considering the team has been in turmoil for nearly a decade, is welcoming in a first-time head coach, missed much of their offseason due to the COVID-19 pandemic and are lacking depth across their roster.

However, as training camps prepare to open across the league, pessimism is reigning supreme in relation to the Giants, who have seen some of their betting odds worsen and their projected win totals decrease.

Pro Football Focus recently examined that change and recommend against betting on the Giants.

Expectations for the Giants have dropped in the offseason, as their win total has flipped from 6.5 with heavy vig on the over to an even 6. They have the ninth-most difficult strength of schedule, so unless you are a firm believer in Daniel Jones, this will be a tough task for Saquon Barkley to overcome.

Given our expectation that the Washington Football Team is better than current public perception, there is little upside to wagering on the Giants to exceed expectations in 2020.

Even at a projected six wins, that’s a higher total than we initially projected the Giants to finish the year with, pegging them at 5-11 following a game-by-game breakdown in May.

Although we at Giants Wire have grown somewhat more optimistic despite the lacking offseason, it’s clear that experts across the league, Vegas and NFL fans have gone in the other direction.
