Giant Sulley and Mike characters go on sale at a monstrously good North East auction

Monster favourites Sulley and Mike will be up for grabs this July to anyone with enough space to provide them with a new home.

'Life-size' versions of the popular characters from hit movie Monsters Inc. are to go on sale at a North East auction house after their Newcastle owner moved home and found himself unable to accommodate them.

With the furry favourites having to be relegated to the garage, he decided to send them, along with other characters from his collection, to Vectis Auctions in Stockton where they will go under the hammer on  July 30.

The unnamed owner bought his 'life-size' Monstropolis models for his collection years ago, with Sulley - purchased via eBay more than a decade ago - being brought north from London in a van, with Mike joining his on-screen partner a year later.

He said: "I hired a van and along with my youngest daughter we drove to London to collect Sulley.

"We brought him home to Forest Hall and he ended up in my collection. He has been the centrepiece of my collection for many years, moving with us and creating a stir wherever he has been."

But of his current home, he said: "Sadly, the bungalow is just not big enough for the both of us."

He is also selling models of characters from Tim Burton’s cult film The Nightmare Before Christmas: two Jack Skellingtons, one with the 'pumpkin king' in a Santa Claus outfit, which were brought over from New York.

He recalled: "Jack Skellington travelled one Christmas, initially as hand luggage and then in the hold.

"He was a definite hit from the start, with many people wanting their photographs with him in the airport. My kids were very excited about this.

"Fellow passengers on the plane cheered when he arrived safely back in Newcastle airport."

He added: "Again, he needs to be displayed and I sadly don’t have the space."

The characters will go on sale in a TV and film-related sale at Vectis, in Thornaby, Stockton on Tees, on July 30 and also among the owner's lots for sale will be vintage Raleigh Chopper bikes.
