Giant snake found slithering out clothing bin on Scots street

Shocked residents called the police after spotting a giant snake slithering out of a clothing donation bin on a Fife street.

Officers were tasked to attend the unusual call on Dunearn Drive in the Templehall area of Kirkcaldy on Monday afternoon.

The dark brown rat snake appeared to be resting on a ledge of the metal container - just above a slogan that read: “Too good to throw away”.

The Scottish SPCA have now confirmed that they have safely rescued the stray animal and are appealing for its owner to come forward.

Inspector Nicola Liddell said, “We were contacted by Police Scotland after they uplifted a stray snake from the Templehall area of Kirkcaldy in the early evening of 18 October.

“Snakes are somewhat notorious for being escape artists and can find tiny spaces in their enclosure to squeeze through.

“We will now hold the snake for seven days at one of our animal rescue and rehoming centres to give the animal’s owner a chance to reclaim their pet.

“If no one comes forward the snake will be rehomed. Encountering an exotic snake is highly unusual.

“If anyone does come across a non-native snake then they should not approach it and contact our animal helpline immediately on 03000 999 999.”
