A giant illuminated Earth is arriving in Liverpool this weekend, to be suspended above visitors at Liverpool Cathedral .
Gaia, a 23ft replica of the Earth which features accurate and detailed NASA imagery, will be displayed for one of the first times ever in the run up to the River Festival.
Created by renowned British artist Luke Jerram, Gaia will be brought to life as it rotates, accompanied by a sound composition by award-winning composer Dan Jones.
Southport Food and Drink Festival is coming - and it's completely free
Gaia is set to rotate every four minutes - 360 times faster than our real planet.
A programme of free events will also be taking place beneath the installation, including interactive storytelling, play sessions, poetry readings and more.
Luke Jerram, artist and creator of Gaia, said “I hope visitors to Gaia get to see the earth as if from space; an incredibly beautiful and precious place. I’m interested in how people will react to this experience and what their interpretation will be.

“I hope visitors to the Earth in Liverpool get to see our planet as if from space, as a floating fragile ball of life, an incredibly beautiful and precious ecosystem. A place we urgently need to look after - our only home.”
The installation opens on Saturday, May 25 and runs for four weeks as part of the River Festival.
