Giant new 4.7m Forth Bridge Lego set could be coming soon - what it would look like

Voted as Scotland’s greatest man-made wonder, the Forth Bridge is not just an icon of Scotland, but an incredible feat of Civil Engineering, so what better monument to become Scotland's first ever Lego set!

Scottish civil engineer and dad Michael Dineen has designed and created a giant Lego model of the Forth Bridge  which measures 4.7m long as part of an open competition by Lego to create a new set.

The huge scale model took Michael a whopping four months to design and build, going to extraordinary lengths to get the details exactly right.

He now hopes Lego will chose his design for a future box set and is asking for fans of the iconic bridge to vote for his creation in an online forum.

Michael has now amassed over 5000 supporters for his Lego Ideas project - and he needs 10,000 for the Forth Bridge to be considered as a Lego set.

Describing the model online, Michael, who lived in South Queensferry for two years, said: "Many people are not aware just how long the bridge is in reality (2.4km) and just how slender it is in relation to its length. I found it very rewarding to design something so unique.

"During construction of the real bridge, engineers had to construct the arms on both sides of each tower at an equal rate, as an imbalance in the weight at either side would make the tower topple over. This is replicated in my model.

"Yet, once completed it is an absolutely solid structure."

He added: "I built my bridge out of pride and passion. I’m incredibly proud to live in a country that is home to one of the greatest and most iconic structures around the world.

"Not only is it immense fun to build, but it would complement a shelf in any room in the house."
