Giant Jerry mouse 'left woman shaking and made kids cry' on Edinburgh streets

This is the 6ft cartoon mouse accused of harassing shoppers and lunchtime workers.

Dressed as the loveable rodent from Tom and , he left one woman “shaking” during an encounter in .

She told how “Jerry” hounded her along the city’s and demanded money after posing for a picture with a disabled woman she was looking after.

When the woman didn’t hand over cash, he .

The furry offender has coped flak online, with claims he has reduced kids to tears with his money-grabbing antics.

The 60-year-old – who did not give her full name – said the young woman she was caring for, who has learning difficulties, stopped to have her picture taken with the costumed character.

They had arrived by bus on Princes Street when the woman started waving at the man in the Jerry outfit.

Janet used the woman’s phone to take a picture of them together.

Jerry didn’t ask for money but when they walked away, he held out his hand, which she presumed meant he wanted paid. When she said “no”, he insisted she delete the picture.

Janet said she was left “shaking” with panic as she couldn’t work out how to erase the snap.

She said: “Eventually I gave him £2 and he walked away.”

Janet added: “I was more concerned as I was with a very vulnerable young woman and he conned me.”

Janet said she didn’t report the incident, on September 27, to police but was a “little scared”.

Jerry’s behaviour has attracted more criticism online.

One Reddit user posted: “What’s the deal with the guy dressed as Jerry in Princes Street Gardens?”

Another Reddit user claimed someone dressed as Jerry was charging £5 for a picture and harassing families.

Edinburgh City Council’s website states the local authority, along with police, welcome responsible buskers who “brighten up the city”.

By law, police can ask buskers to stop performing if they are disturbing others.

A police spokeswoman said: “Should anyone feel subjected to harassment or are concerned with how they have been approached, they should contact us on 101 or report the matter to their local police station.”
