Giant inflatable monsters will return to Manchester this Halloween - along with a haunted maze

Halloween fans across the city are dusting off their pumpkins and hunting out sets of vampire fangs - October is finally here.

Naturally, the city centre will fully embrace the spooky event, with Halloween in the City filling the streets with pumpkin lanterns and skeletons.

The giant inflatable monsters will be back this year, with even more creepy beasts appearing on rooftops across the city.

The public art trail will see some of Manchester's landmark buildings invaded by the monsters, designed by artists Filthy Luker and Pedro Estrallas.

The Arndale, Selfridges, House of Fraser, The Printworks, The Royal Exchange, Native at Ducie Street Warehouse, Depot at Mayfield, Spinningfields, Piccadilly Place and INNSIDE by Melia will all be covered in various tentacles, fangs and wings.

Over at St Ann's Square there'll be a real hedge maze that's been taken over by creeping vines, enchanted statues and even walking, talking bushes.

The maze will sit alongside the ruins of an exploded castle belonging to Dr Graphena Mancenstein, where children can meet the mad scientist.

A city-wide trick or treat trail will take families on a journey to meet monsters, mermaids, Zog and even the ghost of Elvis. Check off each point on the trail and there'll be a special sweet waiting for you at Lightopia's Candy Land on New Cathedral Street.

CBeebies and CBBC will bring further family-friendly fun with a spooky tent in Exchange Square, where they'll be screening TV shows and running a slime school workshop.

Some of Julia Donaldson's beloved book characters will be brought to life in the Arndale, with Z-Arts' event A World Inside A Book - Gruffalos, Dragons and Other Creatures.

There'll be a Creepy Carnival by Grimm Rita on New Cathedral Street, featuring a helter skelter and a skeleton procession by The Strolling Bones with giant puppets, stilt walkers and unicycle riders.

Many of the city's buildings will also light up green in the weeks leading up to Halloween.

Halloween in the City will take place on Saturday October 26 and Sunday October 27, hosted by Manchester BID.
