Giant CND logo arriving in Glasgow this week on way to Faslane Peace Camp

A giant CND logo is arriving in Glasgow this week on its way to Faslane Peace Camp.

Trident Ploughshares and Extinction Rebellion will be bringing the huge logo to Scotland's biggest city before heading to the Camp on Gare Loch to celebrate its 40th Anniversary.

The logo will be arriving at the Quaker Meeting House in Elmbank Street in Glasgow city centre at noon on Thursday.

Peace campaigners from the south-west of England are driving over four hundred miles to Faslane towing the logo, which is finished in multi-coloured patterns and stands some three metres high.

Gillean Lawrence of Scottish CND welcomed the arrival of the logo and the work of Trident Ploughshares and XR. She said: "The action of peace campaigners from across the UK is compliant with international law.

"Since January 2021, the UN Treaty for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons has made nuclear weapons illegal as has happened with the successful bans on land mines, chemical and biological weapons.

"So far, 61 countries have ratified the Treaty, including our neighbours, Ireland, and will be meeting to in Vienna this month."

The giant peace logo started life in 2018 as part of a set of three-dimensional symbols commissioned to mark the 60th anniversary of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND).

They toured Britain being photographed at many iconic locations. Organisers say “the giant peace logo was too good to lose” and has now been repurposed as a touring exhibit.
