Giant £6m superyacht explodes while moored in Torquay harbour

A huge 85ft superyacht worth £6million has gone up in flames while moored in Torquay harbour. Fire crews are currently battling the blaze after witnesses say they heard explosions.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service say five fire engines are attending the blaze, which one eyewitness described as "like a fireball'. Smoke has been seen all across south Devon.

Devon Live reporter Colleen Smith said: "Princess 85ft worth £6million. Witnesses say there were explosions. Ropes burnt through and it drifted into pier. Firemen took trolleys and pumps along pontoons but water not reaching. Some people are trapped on the other end of the pier and can’t get back. Firemen are running along the pier. Still huge flames."

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "We currently have five fire appliances at Torquay marina fighting a fire on an 85ft private vessel. Please do keep away from the area."
