Giannis turned down a ‘Space Jam 2’ role because he doesn’t ‘like being Hollywood’

Giannis Antetokounmpo could win MVP this year. He has just the kind of talent that the Monstars would love to steal in the upcoming Space Jam 2 with LeBron James.

The Greek Freak, though, won’t be appearing in the movie.

Antetokounmpo told ESPN that he was approached about playing a role in the film, which is set to shoot this offseason. Giannis just would have needed to be willing to give up two weeks from his private offseason training regimen and work out with the stars of the movie.

For Giannis, there was no way that was going to happen. He said, via ESPN:

“I don’t like being Hollywood. I don’t like all this extra drama. I am just going to try to be me.”

As of now, no active NBA player other than LeBron has been confirmed to star in the movie. But we should expect that to change once the season comes to a close — even if it takes some convincing. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported last week that it has been a struggle to get NBA stars to come onboard for the movie.

Space Jam 2 is scheduled to hit theaters in 2021.
