Gianluigi Donnarumma: PSG open door for summer exit as Man City 'make contact' for Manchester United target

Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has effectively opened the door for Gianluigi Donnarumma to leave the club this summer.

Donnarumma, who helped PSG win the Champions League for the first time last season, has been left out of the squad to face Tottenham in the UEFA Super Cup final on Wednesday.

This development comes after the European champions confirmed the signing of Lucas Chevalier from Lille over the weekend. The Frenchman is expected to be the first-choice goalkeeper in the new season.

Speaking about the decision to omit the Italy international, Enrique has taken full responsibility and cited that he is simply looking for a different profile of goalkeeper moving forward.

He said: "These are always difficult decisions to make. I can only say very good things about Gianluigi Donnarumma, he is one of the best players in his position.

"Without any doubt. He is even better as a person. But it is the life of a high -level footballer, like that of a coach.

"But we are looking for a different profile of goalkeeper. It is always difficult to decide on these sorts of situations.

“But I assume the responsibility of the choice that has been made. If they were easy to take, anyone would take them. They have to do with the profile of goalkeeper my team needs.”

As a result, Donnarumma is expected to leave PSG this summer. With less than a year remaining on his contract at the Parc des Princes, initial reports had claimed the Italian would be available for around £26million.

However, journalist Fabrizio Romano has stated the asking price is slightly higher at £43m (€50m) amid apparent interest from Manchester City and Manchester United.

City are said to have made contact with PSG for Donnarumma, but believe his current valuation is too high.

That said, Pep Guardiola’s side could pursue a deal in the event that Ederson leaves as the Brazilian is reportedly on the radar of Galatasaray.
