Gianluigi Buffon cops bizarre ban as Juventus legend hit with suspension for BLASPHEMY

Legendary Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has copped a bizarre ban, as he was slapped with a one game suspension for BLASPHEMY.

The 43-year-old was in goal for the Serie A giants in a match against his old side Parma in December and issuing some robust advice to his defence.

As a shot whistled over his crossbar the former Italy international shot a verbal volley at defender Manolo Portanova.

Buffon said: "Porta, I want to see you f*****g running and struggling dio cane , the rest I don't give a f*** about."

Unfortunately for the veteran his words a lack of fans in the stadium meant his words were clearly picked up by the microphones around the pitch.

But it wasn't the swearing that landed Buffon in hot water, rather his use of the phrase 'dio cane' which loosely translates to "dog God" or "God is a dog".

Under Italian law blasphemy is a civil offence, though punishable only by a fine, and the Italian FA ordered the goalkeeper to pay €5,000 as well as banning him for one match.

Juventus appealed but on Tuesday the FIGC confirmed that the suspension would stand.

A statement said: "The Federal Court of Appeal upheld the verdict of the Federal Prosecutor, inflicting a one match suspension on Gianluigi Buffon

"The Juventus goalkeeper, sanctioned by the National Federal Court with a fine of €5,000, had been referred for having uttered a sentence containing a blasphemous expression during the match against Parma last December 19.”

It means Buffon will miss the Turin derby against Torino on April 3, though he's largely played the role of backup to former Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny since returning to Juve.
