Gianluca Scamacca addresses West Ham fans after Atalanta transfer confirmed

West Ham have confirmed the sale of Gianluca Scamacca to Italian side Atalanta.

The forward endured a difficult season in east London following a £30.5m move from Sassuolo last summer, scoring eight goals in 27 appearances.

Atalanta are believed to be paying an initial £22.5m for the striker plus a further £4.3m in add-ons.

Taking to Twitter, the Italy international wrote: “Dear West Ham.

“While my time in London didn’t go the way I had planned, some of my greatest life moments were made here. And for that I’m forever grateful Thank you to the players and staff for making me feel so welcome, and the fans for their continued support.

“I will continue to support this fantastic club from home in Italy, and will be keeping in close touch with the lifelong friends I have made whilst in England Thank you for everything, Ciao.”

It has been a frustrating summer for the Hammers following the British record sale of Declan Rice last month but there now appears to be movement.

They are the only Premier League team not to make a signing this summer but Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez is now close to a move.

A £32m fee has been agreed with the Dutch giants ahead of the Mexico international signing a five-year contract.

West Ham remain interested in Manchester United duo Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay, while a fresh bid for Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse is expected despite the south coast club standing firm on their asking price.
