Ghoulish tea towel covered in faces of notorious Scots serial killers is slammed by top cop

A designer has created a tea towel featuring the faces of some of Scotland’s most notorious serial killers – including child killer Robert Black and World’s End murderer Angus Sinclair.

But the ghoulish memorabilia has been slammed by the top cop who snared Sinclair and a relative of one of Black’s young victims.

The towel, which is being sold on online marketplace Etsy, was designed by Glasgow-based artist David T Dunlop, who is also selling stickers with their faces.

Images of killers Peter Tobin, Ian Brady, Bible John and Dennis Nilsen also feature on the product.

The description on Etsy reads: “78cm x 48cm tea towel featuring 15 of the worst Scottish serial killers of all time.

"Each killer is drawn to their likeness in black, while the blue lines show their true identity.

"Tea towels are expertly screen printed by Stuart Morris Textiles, are half panama on heavyweight white cotton, seamed and crimped with a hanging loop.

"The drawings have been conceived by myself over a number of months and are finally placed together in this single image.

“Anyone interested in serial killer lore, stories or research will enjoy browsing through each of these killers and may even find some they have never heard of.

"The tea towel features famous Scottish origin serial killers such as Bible John, Sawney Bean and Burke & Hare to name but a few.”

Former deputy chief constable Tom Wood, who led the probe into the World’s End murders, described the tea towel as the “depth of bad taste”.

He added: “I sometimes wish the people who lionised or celebrated these men had actually met them – or better yet, met the families devastated by their wickedness.”

A relative of Black’s youngest victim, five-year-old Caroline Hogg, said: “This is disgusting. My family has been through a terrible ordeal, the worst anyone could endure, and you get people like this cashing in. It’s abhorrent.

“It might be seen as ‘art’ but to us, it’s another horrible reminder of the evil that visited my family.

"The people who buy this rubbish are just as bad as the person making the money from it.”

Dunlop said: “I never created these illustrations to hurt anyone and my sympathies lie with all the victims and families of victims that these killers have affected.”
