Ghostly sign appears after popular bar burns down

A "ghost sign" previously hidden from view has appeared again, seemingly offering a rare glimpse into the city's past.

The antique-looking painted advert was spotted on the side of a building on Berry Street in the city centre after the demolition of Bar 53, that was destroyed in a fire.

It took 10 fire crews to eventually bring the blaze under control with surrounding buildings remaining closed for days afterwards.

After the fire. the bar was instead relocated to Seel Street.

Just days after the fire tore through the bar demolition crews moved in to knock down the remnants of the building.

The inside of the building was completely engulfed by the inferno, causing extreme damage to the popular spot which was previously Tribeca and Porky's Ski Hutte.

However, new photos from site of the former bar reveal an old advertisement, apparently from days gone by, revealing a fascinating insight into the city's past.

Although faded, the "ghost sign" appears to be describing some kind of beverage.

The words "pints" and "half pints" can also be seen as well as what looks like old pre-decimal money markings.

At the bottom of the sign, the words "supplied in screw stopper bottles" is clearly legible.

The sign is visible after the building was fully demolished leaving just the bare site underneath and exposing the face of building containing the ghost sign.
