Dan Aykroyd will make a cameo in Paul Feig’s female-led reboot of Ghostbusters.
Aykroyd, who starred in and co-wrote the original Ghostbusters, tweeted about being on set yesterday, calling his fellow cast members “adorable, hilarious and badass”. He has since removed the tweet from his feed.
It’s thought he’ll feature as a taxi driver and act in a scene with Kristen Wiig, who plays parapsychologist Erin Gabler. Full details of the scene are available thanks to a set leak reported by the Indie Revolver blog.
Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones complete the new team of ghostbusters. Aykroyd has been a staunch supporter of Feig’s version, which had come under fire from some fans upset at the decision to change the ’busters’ gender. Feig called their criticism “vile, misogynistic shit” after being attacked on Twitter for “ruining childhoods”. The director has since been enthusiastically tweeting pictures from the set, including stills of the new jumpsuits, proton packs and – of course – slime.
It’s unknown if any of the other original Ghostbusters will make an appearance in the new film. Aykroyd’s co-star, Bill Murray, refused to be a part of a separate sequel that Aykroyd was planning. Ernie Hudson, who played Winston Zeddemore in the original, had initially called the female-led version a “bad idea”, but has since deemed the project “phenomenal”. The fourth original Ghostbuster, co-writer Harold Ramis, died in February last year.
The new Ghostbusters film will be released worldwide in summer 2016.
