Sony has revealed the official release date for Ghost of Yōtei, and it’s one of the bolder moves made in video games this year.
Ghost of Yōtei is due on PlayStation 5 on October 2. This would usually be a solid time to release a game, landing in time for Christmas present buys, but it could also potentially clash with GTA 6.
Rockstar Games has to date stood firm GTA 6 will arrive in “fall 2025”. While a delay has long been speculated, publishers have been wary to announce release dates in that same season for fear of being lost in the fallout of the game’s megaton impact.
May 15 is the next likely date we’ll hear about any change to the GTA 6 plan, or of a more specific release window.
That day is when Take-Two Interactive’s — the parent company of Rockstar Games — next investor call takes place. While Rockstar knows a good chunk of the wider gaming public is in a rabid enough state of anticipation for the game not to have to care about how those players feel, it does need to keep its shareholders on side.
It begs the question: does Ghost of Yōtei publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment know something about the GTA 6 release date we don’t?
There has been some suggestion GTA 6 is likely to launch towards the end of the stated “fall” window, which would position it in late October or November.
