'Ghost monk' spotted lifting camera in basement of abandoned manor

The 'ghost of a monk' could be behind this eerie footage caught on camera in the basement of Woolton Hall, it has been claimed.

The spooky video was taken by paranormal investigators, Disturbed Paranormal, at the abandoned manor house on October 9.

Woolton Hall, on Speke Road, boasts more than 300 years of history but now lies disused and the building has fallen into disrepair

Lee Mills, from Wirral, said the footage was captured by a static camera which was left unaccompanied in the basement, while the group explored the rooms upstairs.

In the video, the camera can be seen moving slowly upwards towards the ceiling before scanning the room.

Lee visited the hall with group members Hayley Scott, Sue Scott and Jodie Marshall who were all left "gobsmacked" by the video.

Lee told the ECHO: "We left a static camera in the basement downstairs.

"It wasn't until we reviewed the footage that we saw the camera got picked up off the chair but no one was down there.

"You see it lift up to about chest height and it moves around a bit.

"I couldn't believe it. We were upstairs doing a live for Instagram and taking pictures so we didn't actually see it until we got home.

"I was gobsmacked.

"When we watched the footage there's a static in the air and there's no sound on it. There's no explanation for that either."

Before the visit, Lee said the group were told that the ghost of a monk has been sighted by people on multiple occasions in the basement.

The group believe that the ghost or "something paranormal" is responsible for the footage.

Lee said: "It's a good possibility that it could be a monk or something paranormal.

"If (the monk) sees that they're not going to know what a camera is judging from how old he was and what year he was living in.

"He probably looked at it and thought 'what's that.'

"The camera lifts so smoothly. It couldn't have been a person.

"We were the only ones in the building and it locks from the inside."

Lee added: "It's the best thing we've filmed in the 10 years we've been doing paranormal stuff."

The group are planning to return to Woolton Hall tomorrow to capture "the ghost" again with two cameras.
