BEIRUT -- Former Nissan Motor Co. Chairman Carlos Ghosn arrived in Lebanon in the company of two pilots and two flight attendants, all of them from Turkey, according to the records of a VIP lounge at a Beirut airport.
The Yomiuri Shimbun obtained the records, which were created when Ghosn entered Beirut. A private jet carrying Ghosn arrived in Beirut at 6:25 a.m. on Dec. 30 from Istanbul, operated by a Turkish aviation company. The passenger list contained Ghosn's real name, "Carlos Ghosn Bichara," and his nationality was stated as French.
Ghosn's passport number was also on the passenger list.
According to Turkish newspaper Hurriyet, a male executive of the aviation company is suspected of helping Ghosn transfer to another airplane in Istanbul, after he departed Japan from Kansai Airport. The executive has been arrested by Turkish authorities.
According to the report, the executive received a phone call from an acquaintance in Beirut who told him there was an internationally important project. The acquaintance also reportedly threatened the executive that his child and wife would be in danger if he did not cooperate.
The executive reportedly said he did not know that Ghosn was the person who boarded the jet.
