Ghislaine Maxwell's hubby pictured with new girlfriend as sex trafficker spends Christmas behind bars

As Ghislaine Maxwell spends her third miserable Christmas in jail, this image of her husband with his new girlfriend will be a bitter reminder of the life she once had. As he rebuilds his life without his sex trafficker wife, Scott Borgerson, 47, is dating Kris McGinn, a 50-year-old journalist from Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts, where he still lives in the £5.8million seafront mansion he once shared with Maxwell.

Borgerson wed British socialite Maxwell in 2016, but ended the relationship with a phone call while she was in a New York jail awaiting trial. And this week he showed just how much he has moved on as he and Kris McGinn went Christmas shopping on a wintry day in Massachusetts.

In June, Maxwell was jailed for 20 years for trafficking girls for paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. She will spend her 61st birthday on Christmas Day on her bunk in a dormitory at Florida’s Tallahassee prison, while Borgerson will most likely be with his new flame.

The yoga-loving mum of two rents a modest home in Manchester-by-the-Sea, where she is a journalist at the 134-year-old local newspaper, The Manchester Cricket, covering food and culture for the area’s posh residents. She worked under the byline Kris McGinn Straub until June 2020, when she dropped her married name.

It is unclear how she met Borgerson, who has two children by his first wife Rebecca, although locals suggest it was over their shared love of dogs. One said: “Those two are like chalk and cheese in terms of their visibility in the town. Whereas we see Kris daily pottering around, Scott is like a ghost.

“He is seldom seen and only ventures out on rare occasions. What is good though is that Rebecca has been fantastic. She is accepting of Kris and has seen her several times. It must be a relief that the new woman in his life is so wholesome given Maxwell’s convictions.”

McGinn is a frequent visitor to Borgerson’s seven-bedroom colonial style home and is seen driving around town in a £48,000 Chevrolet Tahoe she acquired soon after they began dating. The SUV is registered in neighbouring New Hampshire, where Borgerson and Maxwell owned a home in Bradford.

It was there that Maxwell was finally arrested by the FBI in July 2020, charged with recruiting and trafficking underage girls for her one-time lover Epstein to sexually abuse. The billionaire Wall Street financier and convicted sex offender killed himself in a Manhattan jail cell in 2019 as he awaited his own sex trafficking trial.

Borgerson met Maxwell nine years ago, around the time they were both pictured speaking at the Arctic Circle Assembly in Reykjavik, Iceland, in 2013. He was still married to Rebecca, 47, a devout Christian.

She discovered her husband was having an affair when he told her he was going to give a speech in London, but she found he was actually in Miami with Maxwell. Their divorce was finalised in December 2015, leaving him free to wed Maxwell the following year as she sold her New York townhouse for £13.2million.

The marriage was so secret even her family did not know about it. An insider said: “Despite Ghislaine being 14 years older, Scott thought he’d found his soulmate.

“What has transpired though, has been a nightmare that has turned Scott’s life completely upside down. But as he continues to fight the legacy left by Ghislaine, Kris has helped put a smile back on his face.”

Court documents show that Maxwell transferred £15million to a trust controlled by Borgerson. Last month, it was reported that Maxwell’s appeal against her 20-year jail sentence lay in doubt as Borgerson was in a dispute with her lawyers.

Her defence team claimed they were owed for a £700,000 bill and needed £820,000 to lodge an appeal. Haddon, Morgan and Foreman had filed a lawsuit against Maxwell, her brother Kevin and Borgerson in August, trying to recoup the unpaid legal fees.

Borgerson was later dismissed from the suit. Until the money is transferred, Maxwell’s lawyers are unlikely to meet a January deadline for the appeal, leaving Maxwell to face the prospect that she might die in jail.

Borgerson purchased the Manchester-by-the-Sea home by using money from Maxwell, according to the complaint from her law firm. Earlier this month, it emerged that under an agreement “accidentally” included in the filings of Maxwell’s legal team, Borgerson would have to use money from the sale of the Manchester-by-the-Sea house to help cover her legal fees if the money could not be collected from Maxwell or her elder brother, Kevin.

We can reveal that a second home which Borgerson owned in a trendy Boston neighbourhood sold in May for £1.8million. Last night Borgerson was unavailable for comment.
