Ghislaine Maxwell allegedly ordered staff to shred her crooked father’s paperwork hours after the tycoon was found drowned, the Sunday Mirror can reveal.
She was the youngest – and allegedly favourite – child of Robert Maxwell, who drowned in 1991 off his yacht, named Lady Ghislaine.
A reporter who accompanied the Maxwell family to Spain to identify the body says the family travelled to a marina in Tenerife, where the yacht was moored.
Mirror reporter John Jackson later claimed: “Ghislaine rushed through the yacht’s lounges and cabins… rifled drawers and cabinets, plucking documents from them indiscriminately and throwing them to the ground.
She shouted to the crew, ‘I order you to shred immediately everything I have thrown on the floor’.”
At the time Ghislaine “totally and utterly” denied the claims.
Recalling the Tenerife incident, John added: “I didn’t think anything of it at the time. We had no idea of his criminality. He was a great hero. Our newspaper described him as ‘The man who saved the Mirror’.”
But financial skulduggery soon emerged.
Maxwell, seen right, plundered £400million from the Mirror pension in a bid to boost his company’s share price.
Ghislaine’s siblings Kevin and Ian were tried and acquitted over their roles in the business.
Ghislaine later based herself in the US with Jeffrey Epstein.
One New York source claimed: “I believe Jeffrey laundered Robert Maxwell’s money. Then he started spending on a different level, suddenly buying extraordinary townhouses.”
