Gheorghe Hagi slams Celtic claims as Romanian legend clamps down on shock Neil Lennon report

Stunned Gheorghe Hagi has clamped down on reports in Romania that he's set to replace Neil Lennon at Celtic.

Shock claims in his homeland claimed Celtic ' were‘interested’ in appointing the former Barcelona, Real Madrid and Galatasaray star as manager.

According to playsport.ro, the switch for the 55-year-old was 'plausible' even though he would be facing off with his son Ianis for the Scottish Premiership title.

The report emerged just days after Hagi Jr had helped Rangers to a derby day victory as they cruised 19 points clear at the top of the table.

However, in a blunt statement to prosport.ro, the Romania legend has slammed the idea he would take over at Parkhead.

He said: "Following the articles published in all the sports press in Romania, regarding the alleged discussions with Celtic I specify that they do not exist, they are completely false speculations, without having any real basis."

The move would have come as a bizarre u-turn for Hagi Sr having just days ago hailed Rangers as "the best team in Europe."
