Gheorghe Hagi in emphatic Ianis Rangers endorsement as he reveals Steven Gerrard talks

Gheorghe Hagi insists Rangers is an ideal fit for son Ianis Hagi after his Europa League last 32 heroics.

The on-loan Genk playmaker bagged a dramatic double in the 3-2 comeback win over Braga on Thursday night.

Hagi senior also revealed he'd discussed his boy's future with boss Steven Gerrard ahead of the rollercoaster tie at Ibrox.

The former Barcelona and Real Madrid icon was in Glasgow and was apparently pictured "in tears" as his son bagged a superb double to cap an incredible Rangers fightback - although he insists his misty-eyes were simply down to the weather.

And, on his return home to Romania, Hagi admitted he was satisfied his son was at the right place after witnessing his progress for himself.

He said: "Ianis is fit, plays well and is happy.

"He has clearly chosen the ideal team, the ideal club and he is doing very well.

"From now on, I'll let you see how he's doing for himself. He will be the one doing the speaking and we'll just enjoy how he's doing.

"And I wasn't crying. The reason it looked like there was tears in my eyes is because it was very cold.

"I want to say well done and congratulations to Rangers because they played a tremendous match.

"They have a chance of qualifying, but they are playing against a very good team in Braga.

"I don't need to say anything to Ianis, he knows what to do.

"Yes, I did discuss him with Steven Gerrard before the match. That's all I want to say about the night."
