Gheorghe Hagi aims stinging Rangers barb at former Genk boss as he demands answers over Ianis' miserable spell

Angry Gheorghe Hagi has aimed a stinging attack towards son Ianis' former manager at Genk.

The Romanian legend has accused Felice Mazzu of wasting a season of the new Rangers star's career and insists he's much better off at Ibrox.

Hagi joined the Premiership side last week in a £3million deal after a successful loan spell from the Belgian champions.

He was bought by Mazzu for a reported £7m last summer, but he started Hagi in just six league games before he was axed in November.

Mazzu later claimed he had problems with Hagi's entourage because they lacked patience with his progress, but that's infuriated the former Barcelona and Real Madrid superstar.

He said: "I have just one question for Mazzu....why didn't he play Ianis more often?

"Of course he will never answer that question. He started the season brilliantly at Genk and then Mazzu refused to play him for seven games in a row.

"He disappeared and neither Ianis or his team mates knew why.

"He was voted man of the match in a Champions League game against Napoli and then they didn't play him. The Genk fans respected him and were completely puzzled why he wasn't playing.

"When Ianis realised this, he knew he would have to leave. Genk had a great chance to give him a platform to play. But only Mazzu can answer why they didn't.

"No wonder Ianis wanted to leave and join a club like Rangers who use him properly."
