NOIDA: The number of Covid cases continued to decline in Noida and Ghaziabad. While Noida reported 124 new cases, Ghaziabad reported 110.
There was one death linked to Covid in Ghaziabad on Sunday — the third so far this month. An 88-year-old man from Nehru Nagar, who was admitted to Santosh Hospital on January 22 with complaints of breathing distress, died after testing positive during treatment. Doctors said he had a heart ailment, chronic renal disease, hypertension and diabetes.
In Ghaziabad, 31 people were discharged from the hospital while 817 patients are still recovering at home. At 915, the number of active cases dropped below the 1,000-mark for the first time in over a month.
A total of 6,500 samples were collected in Ghaziabad on Sunday, where the positivity rate came down to 1.7% from 2.2% the previous day. Since February 1, Ghaziabad has reported 776 cases while GB Nagar has seen 1,512.
In GB Nagar, 459 people recovered in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases also came down to 1,623.
Health officials said since both Noida and Ghaziabad had been reporting deaths linked to Covid, those with comorbidities were being advised to take extra caution and complete their doses of vaccination. Senior citizens are also being urged to take the precautionary doses, they said.
While GB Nagar vaccinated only 1,309 people on Sunday, Ghaziabad administered 12,253 doses. So far, GB Nagar has given 36,556 shots of the precautionary dose to people while Ghaziabad has jabbed 45,625 people with the booster dose.
