Ghaziabad schools closed today: Classes up to 12 suspended due to heavy rain; IMD issues alert across Uttar Pradesh

Schools in Ghaziabad have been closed due to heavy rainfall. According to a report by Navbharat Times , all schools up to Class 12 have been ordered to remain shut on Thursday. The District Magistrate (DM) issued the order as a precautionary measure to ensure students' safety after continuous rain affected several parts of the city. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall alert for all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh.

The closure order was issued after many school buses had already started their morning routes. Following the announcement, several schools informed parents and students about the holiday and advised children to stay indoors, remain safe, and use the day to complete their pending assignments.

The IMD has forecast widespread rainfall across Uttar Pradesh, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in several regions. According to the weather department, 71 districts in the state recorded rainfall over the past 24 hours, indicating an active monsoon spell.

For Thursday, the IMD has issued a heavy rainfall alert for Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddh Nagar (Noida), Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, Shamli, Bijnor, Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Moradabad, Rampur, Pilibhit, Bareilly, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Lucknow, Sitapur, Hardoi, Unnao, Barabanki, Kanpur Nagar, Kanpur Dehat, Hamirpur and Jalaun. These districts are expected to receive heavy rainfall during the day.

The weather department has also warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning in several parts of the state and has advised residents to exercise caution during periods of heavy rain.

Apart from Ghaziabad, authorities in Mathura and Hathras have also announced the closure of schools up to Class 8 on Thursday due to adverse weather conditions. Students in these districts have been advised to remain indoors until the weather improves.

The latest school closures come as monsoon rains continue to disrupt normal life across Uttar Pradesh. Authorities have urged residents to follow official weather advisories and avoid unnecessary travel in areas experiencing heavy rainfall.
