GHAZIABAD: A 40-year-old property dealer was allegedly shot at in a busy lane by unidentified miscreants in Loni on Saturday morning. The man has received a bullet injury on his chest and is currently undergoing treatment at GTB hospital in Delhi, police said.
According to cops, the victim, Sonu Sharma, is a resident of Sangam Vihar area in Ghaziabad. “We received a call at 9.30am, and the caller informed us that a man has been shot. A team rushed to the spot,” SP (rural), Iraj Raja said. A passerby took Sharma to the hospital, he added.
Sharma was heading to the gym when a bullet pierced through his chest, but he is out of danger now. “The hospital authorities have declared him out of danger. He did not recognise who shot at him and also claimed that he doesn’t have any enmity with anyone,” the SP added.
A case under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of IPC has been registered based on the complaint filed by Sharma's family.
“We have formed four teams to investigate the matter. CCTV footage of the area is being scanned and the miscreants will be arrested soon,” the SP said.
Another senior officer, requesting anonymity, said that the man might have been shot over an old enmity and is hiding something.
“It is possible that Sharma, who also is a financer, had monetary issues with someone. He mentioned a car had crossed him before he was shot at, but he isn’t sure where the bullet came from. He also might have been shot at due to mistaken identity,” the senior officer said.
Recently, Muniraj G, the former SP for vigilance in Lucknow, took charge as the interim Ghaziabad police chief, days after the state government suspended Pawan Kumar for failing to curb the crime rate in the NCR district. The post of the Ghaziabad SSP, however, is interim as a permanent appointment could not be made at that time because the model code of conduct was in place for the MLC elections in UP.
